SRC Club Championship ends this month

July means heatwaves, school holidays and the climax of the SRC Club Championships, so don't miss your final chance to earn points and the celebration later this month!

The penultimate SRCCC race is the Chippenham River Run (which is sold out), and the final race will be TACH's Purdown Pursuit on Thursday July 17th (which is not). That means it's all to play for!

The prizes will then be awarded the following Tuesday after running, so stick around to celebrate with everyone.

June has already seen a plethora of impressive SRC performances: at the Towpath 10k SRC filled the whole women's podium with Daisy, Ash and Katie taking the top three spots. At the Clevedon 10k 73 SRC runners turned out and Dave, Kayleigh, Sophie, Ben, Ross, Charlotte, Chris, Nathan, Luke, Charlie, Dowan, Robin, Emmeline and Abby all hit PBs. The Blaise Blazer also saw a big SRC turnout and an age category win from Paul.

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the post Clevedon 10k social which completed a special SRC evening.

This Wednesday 2nd is the Night of the 5ks, hosted by Coach Rob at the Whitchurch Track (home of our Thursday track nights), where you can test your speed with a 5k on the track. Waves begin at 6.30pm, just turn up at the track with £5.

Quarterly General Meeting

Our next quarterly general meeting will be immediately after running on Tuesday July 29th. Everyone is welcome to attend, have their say in how we run our club and get involved. The main item on this month's agenda will be to discuss our new race Pass The Buck, which will have taken place a couple of weeks before.

Other items for the agenda can be submitted to Sam, the Club Secretary.

The Gromits are back... and so is the SRC Gromit Run

Gromit Unleashed 3 has just begun and will run until the end of August, which means there are statues of Gromit and other Aardman characters all over Bristol and its environs.

Just like previous sculpture trails, some of our run leaders will be incorporating Gromit-hunting into their weekly runs, and we're planning (thanks to Dave Liddament) another big Tuesday event on August 5th.

More details will follow, but as in previous years, the aim is that on August 5th, most running groups will compete to be photographed in front of the most sculptures and complete other fun challenges. To keep it fair, faster running groups will be tasked with finding Gromits further afield. ("Normal" runs may still be available if group leaders want to lead them.)

Pass The Buck

There's still time to enter our inaugural SRC relay race, Pass The Buck! All volunteer roles are filled for now, so SRC members and non-members alike are free to find a partner and sign up. If you're looking for a partner, try our Facebook and WhatsApp channels.

Summer Party

There are still tickets available for our Summer Party!

Join us for an evening of dancing, nibbles, drinks, and even better company. Whether you've smashed every run this year or just joined the club, everyone’s welcome to celebrate the sunshine, good vibes, and all things SRC.

📅 Friday 18th July @ 7pm
📍 The Rising Sun, Alfred Road, Windmill Hill, BS3 4LU - NOT The Rising Sun near Ashton Gate
🎟️Tickets on sale from HeadFirst.

Parkrun

Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday at 9am all over the country and all over the world. There are also 2k Junior Parkruns for those 14 and under. You can sign up for free on parkrun's website, where you will get a barcode that can be taken to every event (physically or on your phone); you just turn up, run and then have your barcode scanned at the end to get your result.

On the first Saturday of the month we have an extra-large turnout at our local parkrun of Ashton Court, which will be Saturday July 5th.

Our monthly tourism trip follows three weeks later on Saturday July 26th, where we'll be heading towards a very new event in Bath's Brickfields Park. The route will be familiar to fans of the Two Tunnels races - but this time it's free.

Please do consider volunteering as well; it is very rare for parkruns to have too many volunteers, and it is always appreciated when a club like ours provides additional marshals, timekeepers etc when we descend on another parkrun.

If you're looking for a lift or able to offer one, head to our members-only WhatsApp community where there is a dedicated parkrun channel.
