Southville RC Newsletter May 2026

Hi Everyone,

Marvellous May is here! I hope you have all enjoyed some sunshine and the bank holiday weekend.

A busy April

There’s been a lot going on over the past month, with Spring racing well underway.

We also held the SRC Quarterly General Meeting on Tuesday 21st April, and the minutes will be on our website shortly . Read on for news about how you can get involved in our club organised races, the social stuff, and even some running.

Summer Party

It’s time for SRC’s Summer Party 🌞🎉

🎉 Swap your running shoes for dancing shoes! 👟➡️💃

Join us for an evening of dancing, nibbles, drinks, and even better company 🥳🍹

Whether you’ve smashed every run this year or you’ve just joined, everyone’s welcome to celebrate the sunshine, good vibes, and all things SRC 💚

You can buy tickets online here: https://www.southvillerunningclub.co.uk/src-summer-party-2026

Pass the Buck
We have opened entries for our SRC organised race, Pass the Buck - a spectacular summer 2-person relay race through the beautiful trails of Ashton Court, where each runner tackles a 5km loop of the estate.

Please do share with your friends, family, co-workers etc and on social media so we can build on the success of the event last year. They can enter here https://www.fullonsport.com/event/pass-the-buck-2026/profile. Of course we will be wanting loads of volunteers for the event so please save the date in your diaries - the evening of 8th July - and look out for opportunities to get involved.

And for those of you who just can’t get enough of volunteering for the club, and are partial to fancy dress, we are already in the planning stages for our epic Halloween themed race the Nightingale Nightmare, back after a fallow year this autumn. More on this soon…

Race roundup
April has been a big one for racing, with SRC colours spotted near and far - from breezy promenades to tough trail miles and iconic city streets.

First up, the Weston Prom Run. Fast, flat and famously windy, this race is always a test of pacing (and grit when running straight into the breeze!). There was a strong club turnout, with plenty of runners making the most of the sea air, and a number of series bests from SRC. Well done to everyone who raced – especially those who made it to Spoons for the post-race de-brief after getting a mouthful of sand en route!

Next came the Butcombe Ultras, where trails, climbs and long hours on tired legs were very much the order of the day. This was a proper endurance challenge, but one tackled in true Southville style. The results showed some epic performances including Charlotte coming 1st lady and 1st Southviller back!

And finally, the London Marathon. Massive congratulations to all our SRC runners who took on the full 26.2 miles and those who supported as part of the crazy London crowds. From the electric atmosphere at the start lines to the wall of noise along the route and the finish on the Mall, it’s an unforgettable day (even when the legs protest). Particular well done to Dean and Nathan who represented SRC with the club ballot places!

As ever, it’s been brilliant to see so many SRC vests out racing and supporting. Whether you’re chasing PBs, tackling new events or just getting round with a smile, you’re all doing the club proud 💚

Looking ahead, spring and summer racing is well and truly underway. In May, our next club champs run is Bitton 5k (Wednesday 6th) and our main club event will be the Towpath Mob Match (Friday 29th) followed by a social at the Tobacco Factory - get involved!

Thanks to Sophie for the race round up.

Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday at 9am all over the country and all over the world. There are also 2k Junior Parkruns for those 14 and under. You can sign up for free on parkrun's website, where you will get a barcode that can be taken to every event (physically or on your phone); you just turn up, run and then have your barcode scanned at the end to get your result.

Welfare

At the recent Quarterly General Meeting, our committee approved a new Welfare Policy which is will be up on our website soon. The policy has been drafted to help our community know what to expect when they contact one of our Welfare Officers, Clara von Eye and Nic Mimmack. If you have any concerns about safeguarding, the conduct of another member or any other matter that you feel the club needs to look at, you can speak to either or both of our Welfare Officers as a first point of contact. Both Clara and Nic can be contacted at welfare@southvillerunningclub.co.uk.

Enjoy your run,

Amy at Southville Running Clubinfo@southvillerunningclub.co.uk
